More on the campaign in Ealing
Ealing Southall
From: Vote 2007.co.uk
Having spent all of Saturday and all of Monday in the east of the constituency in Northfield, Walpole and Ealing Common, the campaign is less visible than in the west, but that's to be expected.
It doesn't mean the campaign isn't there at all. There are plenty of posters visible in the shops on the main north-to-south roads (Northfield Avenue and South Ealing Road) and on Uxbridge Road as well.
Lit and Bakhai have the most up although there are quite a few Sharma ones too and the odd RESPECT poster. I saw one shop with posters from all four parties and plenty were displaying at least two.
Conservatives and Liberal Democrats seem to be delivering about one piece of literature every day. Labour are struggling to keep up and their literature quality is more mixed - some glossy stuff but also risographed. The other parties don't seem to have done anything beyond a standard election communication.
Tony Lit does seem to have the strongest profile even in the east of the constituency. We had kids come up to us on the bus (not Asian kids either, white and black lads) who clearly knew who he was.
Both the Labour and Liberal Democrat campaigns are attacking the Conservatives and Labour are attacking Lit personally - Labour's weekend effort was "don't risk the Tory playboy". The Labour literature is all about the Conservatives and doesn't mention the Liberal Democrats at all.
